Culprit?

Has tourism been a culprit in commodifying cultures and traditions?

Yes:

With tourism, more people are aware of a certain's country culture, tourists would spread the word to others in their home country. This makes the country's culture commercialized as people are constantly visiting it and soon enough, it would not be "special" or "unique" anymore as everyone has experience or seen the culture in a certain country.

Certain countries make use of tourism to sell their culture for tourist to buy it by visiting their culture. This maybe lead to the dilution of their culture and bring about foreign culture into their country. This causes the country to slowly lose its culture in a long run, deterring tourists from visiting their country to experience their culture.
